How the Dog Age Calculator works
For dogs at least one year old, the human-age estimate uses the published logarithmic relationship 16 × ln(age) + 31. Life-stage labels are simplified by expected adult size and are not a medical diagnosis.
Frequently asked questions
Is the old “multiply by 7” rule accurate?+
No. Dogs mature much faster early in life, and aging speed varies with size and breed.
Why does size matter?+
Large and giant dogs tend to enter senior life stages earlier than smaller dogs.
Calculator outputs are estimates for education and planning. They do not diagnose disease, replace a physical examination, or override advice from a veterinarian who knows your dog.
